IRAN'S DOMESTIC RELATIONS LAW REFORM
By I.L. Newcombe
Iranian officials are pleased with the first divorce under Iran's new and progressive Domestic Relations Law.
An Iranian man, married for mere days, opted to test the "Feigning Suicide Pact" clause of the new law. Under this clause, a couple enters into a suicide pact and then the male backs out after 50% of the pact is executed.
"It saves a lot in terms of court time and alimony," notes Judge Ishmir Kalachi, the main author of the law. "Instead of long, drawn out court battles, the man converts his divorce status into widower status, praise Allah."
The man's attorney was also pleased with the outcome. "I think this turned out the best for everyone. My client is now free from marriage to a little slut."
Iranian Women for Basic Human Rights, an activist group based in Tehran, was set to protest the new law before the membership was arrested and beheaded.
