LB IN '04 PROMISES TO STOP BASHING TEXAS
From the Editors
On to Mississippi, the state that may be the most conservative in the Union. Both politically and culturally, Mississippi prides itself on its conservativism. Rarely is the questions asked: Why?
Mississippi ranks 48th in population changes (we posit, people want to leave and no one wants to go there).
Mississippi ranks 2nd in infant mortality.
Mississippi has 168 physicians per every 100,000 people (in comparison, Alabama has 201).
Mississippi ranks #1 in persons living below the poverty level.
Children under 18 years of age below poverty level #1.
Persons over 65 years of age under the poverty level #1.
Traffic Fatalities (which we believe might really be suicides) #4.
And, for the state that prides itself on distrusting the Federal government, Mississippi ranks #11 in Federal Aid.
Mississippi ranks 45th in Bachelors Degrees.

Mississippi has embraced the conservative ideology. It has voted Republican in 8 times in the last 9 elections. What does it have to show for itself?
***This commentary was not meant to belittle or disparage the fine people of the Magnolia State. It's sole purpose was to demonstrate how the nation's poorest state can still embrace an ideology that has kept it mired in the 18th Century. Any resemblance to any states living or dead is purely coincidental. All names have been changed to protect the authors.
Fun Facts About Mississippi:
Mississippi has never thanked Louisiana and Arkansas for all their hard work in keeping Mississippi from falling over to the left. Without the presence of Louisiana and Arkansas, the Magnolia State would tilt left and geologists postulate, millions of dollars in property damage would result with thousands of mobile homes rolling into the Gulf of Mexico.
However, as LB in '04 prides itself on being fair and balanced, we note the following about Mississippi, its people and accomplishments.

Friendship Cemetery in Columbus has been called Where Flowers Healed a Nation. It was April 25, 1866, and the Civil War had been over for a year when the ladies of Columbus decided to decorate both Confederate and Union soldiers' graves with beautiful bouquets and garlands of flowers. As a direct result of this kind gesture, Americans celebrate what has come to be called Memorial Day each year, an annual observance of recognition of war dead. Lets her it for the Ladies of Columbia. A wonderful gesture.
