THE MODERN DAY WITCH HUNT

Although they still have first-class tickets on the 666 Express Train to Hades, I'd like to thank Stockton and Tweed for the opportunity to address a growing blite upon the land. Political prisoners exist in this great land. You may not know their names for they are not colored activists; they are not braless, hairy woman's libbers; they are not tree copulating environmentalists. Who are they you ask? Simply, they are our husbands, our sons, our fathers and brothers.
Scott Peterson is now on trial for his life in a California courtroom. Mark Hacking has just been arrested and is now, know doubt, undergoing relentess interrogations at the hands of the police. Their crime? Their crime is their gender. Both men are males. Males in a female dominated society. The wives of both these men have just happened to 'disappear'. Yet, instead of searching for these missing women, law enforcement is prosecuting and persecuting the grieving husbands, to the shame of us all.
Now you might say, "Hold on there, Reverend Smoot. Why does a liberal, female-dominated, law enforcement apparatus go after these men if they didn't do it?" Well, old Reverend Smoot has just one thing to say: If you believe that, you probably believe OJ was guilty.
Consider the facts of each case and you will soon see how easily such charges could be brought against any man. Who among us hasn't gone fishing on Christmas eve? Who hasn't dyed their hair and made for the Mexican border in a moment of innocent spontaneity? Who hasn't fibbed about acceptance to medical school? Who hasn't gone out to buy a new mattress on a day the wife was out late? Who amongst us hasn't researched tidal patterns on the internet?
Now, through mere coincidence, two men battle for their lives because the 'victims' happen to be women! And are there victims? There are no bodies. Their are no witnesses. These women could be Thelma & Louisan' all over the country, wearing pants, smoking cigarettes, getting abortions, letting their armpit hair grow until they look like they got Tracy Chapman in a headlock. There's certainly no evidence to say they aren't out having a good time. All the while, their poor husbands grieve. Scott Peterson was so upset, he sold his wife's car just days after her 'disappearance'. Now is that the act of an uncaring husband? Mark Hacking was so distraught, he could barely finish a second helping of pancakes.
Let us put a stop to the bashing of men. Let us help Scott and Mark. We should feel for these young men. Mark Hacking has lost a beautiful wife. Scott Peterson lost a wife and a girlfriend. Haven't they suffered enough? Is jail time the answer?
And what if they did do it? Is there any suggestion that they would be a danger to anyone else? These two men can live full, non-wife disappearing lives if given a chance. In an age where every little girl is a future lesbian and every little boy a pre-rapist, Scott and Mark must not be the scapegoat sacrificed at the alter of the Women's Movement.
Scott and Mark are young men with their entire lives before them. Now, free from family responsibility, they will have the time to make great contributions to society. Perhaps Scott will be a Scout Leader, Mark a marriage counselor. Give them a chance and I'm sure they'll be sons-in-law that you can be proud of.
