DO AS I SAY
By Stockton
LB in 04 is well known for its hard-hitting, fact based journalism and commentary. Today, we'd like to break away from that a do something a bit silly.
Have you ever debated a right-wing, culturally conservative Fasc....I mean Republican? Have you ever been unable to cite facts to back up opinion? Allow us to help you out.
Arguably, Mississippi, Alabama and North Carolina have the most culturally conservative populations (at least in the top 8 states). Denizens from those states like to talk about traditional, Biblical values ad nauseum.
Minnesota, Massachusetts and New York are arguably the three most progressive states, and if not, no one can argue that they are among the most progressive and godless.
DIVORCE STATISTICS FOR 2001
rate per 1000 people
AL - 5.3
MS - 5.4
NC - 4.5
MA - 2.4
MN - 3.3
NY - 3.0
http://www.census.gov/prod/2004pubs/03statab/vitstat.pdf
DIVORCE NATIONWIDE
rate per 1000 people
1972 - 4.0
1981 - 5.1 (first year of Reagan Presidency)
2001 - 4.0 (end of Clinton Presidency)

There are also funny statistics on the percentage of mobile homes, but I'll save that for another day.
So, lets sum up: The socialist republics of NY, MN and MA have much lower divorce rates that the MS, AL (the heart of the BIBLE Belt) and NC.
Nationwide divorce reached a thirty year high under Ronald Reagan, and has been declining ever sense.
Draw your own conclusions.
That's one to grow on.
