Vice-President Dick Cheney's autobiography, I am Dick, is set to be released in January 2005. Proofs, released by Mr. Cheney, paint a picture of Mr. Cheney at odds with his public persona. The book reveals Mr. Cheney to be a warm, considerate man and a good family. Here, in an excerpt, Mr. Cheney talks about the day Mary, his daughter, decided to become a lesbian.
"As good Americans, Lynn and I both knew that homosexuality/lesbianism is a choice. Mary was getting to an age where we believed she would be making that all important decision. I remember walking into her room. "Well, Mary, have you decided yet?"
Mary shook her head. "It's tought Dad. On the one hand, boys are nice and their cute. On the other, I'd really like to play organized sports."
"Well Mary, we all have to make this decision in our lives." I thought back to the day I decided not to be a homosexual. I told Mary about my own decision making process. How me and Mom and Dad sat at the kitchen table all night trying to resolve the issue. Mary thought it would be a good idea if Lynn and I coached her through it.
That night, we spent hours at the dinning room table. I even called in some trusted advisors. After weighing all the options, Mary made her final decision at 4:30a.m.

Cheney and advisors gathered to help Mary make her decision.
